Opine by August 28: Fall Budget 2025

Only July 29, the Finance Minister/Minister of Revenue met with Canada’s leading chief economists to exchange views on Canada’s economic outlook and discuss ways to build the strongest economy in the G7. The Minister wants to hear from individuals about what should be in the Fall 2025 Federal Budget, expected to be released after Parliament resumes on September 15. (The session will end on December 12). Provide your opinion by August 28 on the queries below:

  1. How can the government build one strong economy today and for the future?
  2. What are the most important ways the Government of Canada can help Canadians in their day to day lives?
  3. What is your highest priority when it comes to Canada’s defence and security?
  4. What is one suggestion you have for how the federal government can support you or your community?
  5. What province or territory do you live in?
  6. Which age group do you fall into?
  7. Optional questions: how do you identify yourself (gender, special groups)
  8. What is your income level?

There are options to write in your own comments if the government selections don’t suit you. The last federal budget was on April 12, 2024, and it introduced the now defunct capital gains inclusion rate hikes.

The government’s economic round table with economists focused on the ongoing global uncertainty, Canada’s response to tariffs. Also discussed were opportunities to create jobs, build more homes, and diversify trade as well as the government’s “ambitious but responsible fiscal plan that will spend less, invest more, and build Canada as an economic force for decades to come, including catalyzing private capital and unleashing investment.”

Sounds ambitious and promising! Your opinion matters. Be sure to weigh in with Finance Canada and also with this month’s Knowledge Bureau Poll:

A public consultation on whether the CDIC’s deposit insurance limit should be raised to $150,000 per deposit category is underway. Do you agree?
