Worry Alert: Solve the Need for Wealth Transition Plans
Evelyn Jacks
Do you have clients who are starting to think and perhaps worry about how they can transfer wealth to the next generation tax-efficiently? If this is increasingly a concern, you won’t want to miss Larry Frostiak’s highly engaging session at the Acuity Conference for Distinguished Advisors (DAC), November 22-24 in Victoria, B.C.
This session is especially for advisors and clients who want a wealth transition plan, well before the kids are in charge, here’s who’s affected and the amounts involved:
The Backdrop. Baby boomers hold nearly 50% of Canada's wealth, and here’s how it breaks down:
- Families in which the main income earner was 65 or older held the highest median net worth.
- Household net worth topped $18.4 Trillion by Q3 in 2025[1] led by value in financial assets of over $532 Billion[2]; the largest increase ever since these recording began in 1990.
- The average boomer household net worth now exceeds $1.45 million, but as of Q3 2025 the top 20% of households hold 65.5% of Canada's total net worth, averaging $3.5 million per household.
Larry’s session will take a close look at the issues facing parents, especially, who want to transition their wealth in a tax efficient and orderly manner.
Shore up on your knowledge about transitioning the most emotional asset – the family cottage-or the condo in the U.S., the large non- registered or non-registered investment portfolios and (where applicable), shares in a family business or holding company. Finally the subject of life insurance is a critical factor, as it can help pay tax bills at end of life of the surviving spouse. But beyond that it can also overwhelm the recipients of such a large tax exempt windfall.
A helpful checklist will be included as an appendix to the presentation. Don’t miss it!
