Distinguished Speaker:
Charlie Spiring

As the former founder, Chairman and CEO of Wellington West Holdings Inc. (Wellington), Charlie is best known for restoring the personal connection to investing. He founded Wellington in 1993 with the goal of building a firm where advisors could be owners and where the formula for success would lay in doing what is best for their clients. Under his leadership, Wellington grew into one of Canada’s largest independently-owned investment firms, managing over $10 billion in assets, employing more than 645 people and serving over 80,000 clients.

Among its many corporate achievements, Wellington was ranked in the top quartile of the Best Employers in Canada for six consecutive years, named one of Canada’s Fastest Growing Companies in 2010, and recognized as one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies for five consecutive years. Wellington West Capital Inc. also ranked in the top three in the 2011 Brokerage Report Card for the eighth consecutive year.

In 2011, National Bank acquired Wellington for $333 million. This achievement validates all of Charlie and his team’s hard work and accomplishments over the years. Charlie now holds the position of Vice Chairman & Director, National Bank Financial Wealth Management. He continues his role as a Senior Investment Advisor, dedicated to serving his clients and pursuing his passion as a broker.

Charlie also plays an active role in his community. He is a strong supporter of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, the Winnipeg Humane Society and United Way Winnipeg. He is also the past Chair of Yes! Winnipeg, a campaign promoting business development in Winnipeg. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors for the Investment Industry Association of Canada, elected as Vice Chair.
