Financial Literacy Leader Apply Here

On June 20, the Honourable Ted Menzies, Minister of State, Finance, announced that the selection process for the first Financial Literacy Leader of Canada was officially underway.

The creation of the position, which will be housed within the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC), delivers on a promise from Budget 2011 and follows guidelines of the Federal Task Force on Financial Literacy.

The perceived need for the position was the increasingly complex terms and conditions that appear within financial products such as credit cards and mortgages. Couple this with the fact that banking electronically and making purchases online is becoming ubiquitous in Canadian society, the argument for the need for further consumer protection in this area is strong. The Leader will report to both the Minister of Finance and to Parliament, through the Commissioner of FCAC.

The position will be centered in the Ottawa area, with a salary range of $126,900 to $149,200. Proficiency in both official languages is preferred. The Financial Literacy Leader is a Governor in Counsel position. Refer to the Notice of Vacancy for more information about the position and the selection criteria. The application deadline is July 22, 2013.
