Protecting Wealth When Clients “Have Enough”: Rethinking the Role of Insurance
For clients who have accumulated significant wealth, the question may no longer be whether they need insurance. Instead, where can insurance fit as a strategic tool to preserve wealth, provide liquidity and optimize the resources they already have? That’s the focus of an important insurance planning session at the 2026 Acuity Conference for Distinguished Advisors, featuring Daniel Dessureault, ASA, CEA, CLU®, CFP®, RWM™, MFA-P™ and Melanie Zimmerman, CPA, CA, TEP, sponsored by PPI.
New Risks, New Wants, New Directions: Significant wealth can still be vulnerable to erosion. Estate leakage due to tax liabilities can reduce terminal wealth by 20% to 30%, while clients who are asset rich may not have sufficient liquidity available when tax and other liabilities come due.
For advisors, that creates an opportunity to look beyond the traditional needs-based insurance conversation. In some situations, insurance may simply be a sound business decision—helping clients optimize current resources while supporting longer-term wealth preservation objectives.
A Different Client Conversation: Dessureault and Zimmerman will explore the question at the heart of the session: “why is insurance planning important for people who already have enough?” Delegates will consider where insurance solutions can fit when a client may not need insurance in the traditional sense, but wants it as part of a broader strategy for protecting and preserving wealth.
