Are You Ready for the New Era of Tax Compliance?
As CRA's technology and enforcement strategies continue to evolve, so too must the advisors who guide Canadians through an increasingly complex tax environment. CE Savvy Summit: Issues in Audit Defence on September 23, brings together leading tax experts Evelyn Jacks, Kim Moody and Ruth Horst to examine the latest developments in audit defence. Plus this is the first in a series leading to a new credential for workplace training at Knowledge Bureau: The Senior Tax Specialist Diploma. Register by September 9 for early-bird savings! Here’s a preview:
The CE Summit opens with Evelyn Jacks, DMA, RWM™, MFA™, MFA-P, FDFS™ who will examine the last legislative proposals released July 23 and the evolving audit landscape, including CRA's growing use of AI, post-tax season audit priorities, GST reporting requirements for financial advisors, and strategies for filing audit-proof returns that protect both compliance and clients' financial peace of mind.
Next, Ruth Horst, BA, Hons., FDFS™ will focus on the year's highest-risk audit targets, including COVID-19 subsidy reviews, cryptocurrency transactions, real estate reporting, cash-intensive businesses, and gig economy workers. Her session will help advisors understand who is being targeted, and how to prepare clients before an audit begins.
In the afternoon, Kim GC Moody, FCPA, FCA, TEP, FDFS™ takes a deep dive into the audit process itself, exploring CRA's legislative authority, taxpayer rights, voluntary disclosures, record-keeping requirements, compliance orders, and the objection process. He will also examine the growing role of AI in tax administration, discussing both its capabilities and its limitations while highlighting why professional judgment remains indispensable when defending taxpayers.
Special thanks to our software partner for this session, TaxCycle, who will provide a technology update as well.
