Winter CE Summits: Be Your Clients’ Best Audit Defence

Canadians this year will be surprised by the volume of changes to the return and all the lines in it. Professionals who can answer specific questions, interpret financial activity and file with precision present a great value-add to their clients:  the confidence that the new 8-page 2019 return is both accurate and defensible. And that’s important in a vigorous audit environment. The Winter CE Summits provide the knowledge you need – sign up by Friday January 10 for best fees.

Expect audit activity on everything from TFSA/RRSP account holdings, discretionary claims like childcare and moving costs, medical and charitable donations, any family income splitting, interest and professional fees claimed by investors, principal residence dispositions and capital gains reserves. Foreign income reporting is always under the microscope.

The issue is always this for the pros:  file audit-proof tax returns.  Join us  at Canada’s most comprehensive T1 tax update course starting next week January 16 – 24, featuring  Canadian tax experts Evelyn Jacks, Walter Harder, and Henry Shew travelling Canada in this 6-city tour. Special guest speaker Mark Mayer from the CRA will also join us on January 20 in Toronto to discuss the latest authorization enhancements.  But hurry! Enrol by Friday, January 10 for early registration discounts.

The new tax return will add complexity to the tax filing process this year, according to Knowledge Bureau President Evelyn Jacks, “Filing the T1 tax return for every family member is the critical last step in maximizing after-tax income for 2019,” says Jacks. “However, the most important part of the Advanced Tax Update is that it’s your best audit defence!  We help you 'Shake out the Cobwebs' and really drill down into those ‘dark horses’ and ‘ancient tax theory’ that can trip you and your clients up in a summer tax audit."

Everything is included in the tax-deductible tuition fees. The detailed agenda will overview the changes in the Advanced Tax Update Knowledge Journal and all students will also receive a 3-month subscription to Evergreen Explanatory Notes.  Financial advisors will receive insurance and  CE/CAP PD Credits; all students will qualify for 10 Knowledge Bureau credits. Nutritious food, coffee and tea are included.

The Winter CE Summits will provide a comprehensive look at the forms and schedules in the detailed agenda on advanced tax filing issues for employees, families, investors, real property owners and the self-employed.

Announcing a very special guest speaker in Toronto! Knowledge Bureau is also excited to announce that Mark Mayer from the CRA will be joining the lineup as a guest speaker during the workshops taking place in Toronto on January 20. Mark Mayer is the manager of the Authorizations and Business Number Strategy Section, in the Assessment, Benefit, and Service Branch of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).  Mark has worked in the CRA for 29 years and has held a wide variety of positions over his career, including the marketing electronic services, appeals, systems development, media relations and public affairs. He is a graduate of Concordia University in Montreal. Mark will be participating in the Technology Round Table Discussion session which will focus on new CRA authorization procedures and the importance of a Real Wealth Management™ approach to responsible transition planning.
